The most famous flat garden
Without any hills or ponds, the garden of Ryoan-ji Temple is a symbol of simplicity and Zen principles of meditation and contemplation. Built in 1450, Ryoan-ji Temple is famous for its garden, however, the architect or maker of the garden remains unknown to present day.
Fifteen rocks of different dimensions float on a sea of white sand, and the visitor can take a good look at the garden from a platform above. The trick is that, no matter the angle of view, one can never see all 15 stones. Larger gardens and forest open for a walk, once the meditation is done. Entrance fee is 300-500JPY.
